The Vanarama First Four – opening the book on AFC Telford’s start!

League sponsors Vanarama have been busy assessing the season so far – and what’s to come!

Story so far…

It’s been just about as up and down as it could possibly get for AFC Telford United so far. After starting with a defeat at Kettering on the opening day, a win against Kidderminster quickly followed before a credible draw with Gateshead. But the Bucks came unstuck midweek against Hereford.

From the dugout…
A reaction was needed after a loss in the opener and the boss got just that a few days later. “I’m really pleased with that win and hopefully that will kick-start us for the rest of the season,” Cowan said after their win against Kidderminster Harriers.

But the Bucks’ boss said he was “baffled” as to how his side drew a blank against Gateshead but insisted, he would be “focusing on the positives for his side who gave everything.”

Biggest result so far…

Their only win so far of the campaign came against Kidderminster Harriers courtesy of goals from Darryl Knights and Aaron Williams. While not the barnstorming start fans would have hoped for, a 2-0 win against a tough Harriers side will have inspired fans.

Top performer…

Summer signing Chris Lait has shown the kind of form he showed last season at Tamworth. The hardworking and innovative winger has delighted the fans with his early performances.

Stat attack…

League position: 14th

Home goals for: 2

Away goals for: 1

Home goals against: 0

Away goals against: 3

Top scorer: Steph Morley, Darryl Knights, Aaron Williams (1)

What the fans say…

Bucks fans @afcbally thinks he knows what the problem is to their stuttering start. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “not enough pace or creativity and too many kept from last season.”

Next up…

Home advantage could be key for Saturday’s clash with King’s Lynn Town who responded well to their defeat on the opening afternoon. Since then, Ian Culverhouse has been getting a tune from his side with two wins and a draw in the three games that followed.

Their one to watch….

If either Adam Marriott or Michael Gash catch the Bucks backline off guard, they will be punished. Last season’s top-scorer Marriott knows where the net is and won’t need a second invitation to find the back of the net.

Last time out….
The sides last met seven years ago in the FA Trophy when King’s Lynn competed in the United Counties League. With the game looking like going to a replay, the Linnets struck two late goals to progress.

League sponsors Vanarama have recently launched the National League Club Reward scheme to help fans back their club’s budget. Every time a fan takes out a brand new van lease with Vanarama or a brand new car lease with Mototama their club will earn £100 and you will receive £30 cashback!
