We can confirm goalkeeper George Scott‘s return to the Bucks for the 2024/25 season, but as his namesake George Harrison once sang with the Beatles, it’s also a case of “Hello, Goodbye”.
George has agreed to a deal that will register him with the Bucks and allow him to play for Shifnal Town, a dual registration.
Manager Kevin Wilkin was keen to re-engage George, principally as an understudy to Brandon Hall, but also recognised that playing more regularly would benefit George.
The Bucks will retain the right to recall George if necessary. The benefit of the arrangement is that the Bucks could do so safely, knowing that George had been playing competitive football and would not be lacking in match readiness.
Asked about the arrangement, Kevin said:
“George is a super lad to have within the group, but of course, you can only ever play one goalkeeper. Allowing him to go out to Shifnal means he should stay sharp at a decent level, meaning that if anything happens to Brandon, George would be ready to step in and step up. He did that last season for us (at Long Eaton) when Brandon was carrying a knock and didn’t let anyone down, least of all himself.”
“George’s availability for that game saved us the headache of having to try and bring in a keeper on a short-term basis, with the added benefit that he had trained with the lads. He was ready to go, and we know he’d be ready to do the same again.”
George will, therefore, face his Bucks teammates on Saturday, when he will play in goal for Shifnal in our next pre-season friendly.
Welcome back, George, and farewell at the same time!
