We are pleased to announce that members of 3 historic sides across both Telford United and AFC Telford will be in attendance.
1971 FA Trophy Winning Side
53 years has passed since the day in 1971 when a group of young men helped to establish the new town of Telford onto the national map, in a sporting sense and perhaps in a wider sense too.
Telford United’s 3-2 victory over Hillingdon Borough at Wembley on 1st May 1971 came at the end of only the second season of the club bearing the name of Telford.
Back in 2011 this group were inducted into our Hall of Fame and we are delighted to welcome members back for the evening to discuss their recollection of that famous day at Wembley.
1985 Famous FA Cup Side
Telford became one of only ten non-league teams to reach the Fifth Round in 1985, where they came up against the FA Cup holders and eventual Champions of England that season, Everton at Goodison Park. Stortons team battled bravely for an hour before the quality of Everton shone through and goals from Peter Reid, Trevor Steven and Kevin Sheedy gave the hosts a 3-0 victory. The 11,000 supporters from Telford remains the largest ever away following in the competition’s history.
As we approach the 40 year anniversary of the infamous tie, we relive some of the moments with the people at the heart of this side.
2008/09 Setanta Shield Side
A season which had it all for the Bucks. FA Cup first round, FA Trophy Semi Final, Play Off Final and the only team to win the Setanta Shield.
A side which played over 60 games in the season were also rewarded with being the only team to win the Setanta Shield beating Conference sides Cambridge, Kettering and Burton Albion along the way.
We catch up with some of the players and remember that memorable night in Nailsworth.
We are working hard behind the scenes to make contact with all those involved in these famous seasons. However if you can help us make contact with anyone involved particularly the two Telford United sides, please contact [email protected]
