AFC Telford United are extremely pleased with this evening’s news that Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire will remain in Tier 2 therefore allowing us up to 2,000 spectators into the New Bucks Head on Boxing Day.
We have however this evening received some new guidance from Telford & Wrekin Council which will prevent us from opening the East Terrace bar on Boxing Day.
Under the new guidelines “In tier 2: sports stadia are exempt from only serving alcohol with a substantial meal to spectators who intend to sit in the auditorium to consume their drink. This should be limited only to customers with tickets and those who intend to return to their seat”
Our licence only allows us to serve alcohol on the East Terrace when in sight of the pitch so under the current guidelines and with the East Terrace a standing stand only, we are therefore required to close the East Terrace Bar until the guidelines change.
We share supporters frustration especially as the football club have invested in stock and resources to ensure the bar meets all the safety requirements.
We would like to thank Telford & Wrekin Council for their continued support in getting the New Bucks Head ready to welcome supporters back and are asking the government for clarity on the current guidelines.
