After the arrival of joint managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley in the summer of 2018, many people believed Chester were destined for promotion. However, despite periods of promise, the Blues ultimately finished 9th last season – one place and three points behind the Bucks.
However, after back-to-back 1-1 draws to begin the season, the Blues have really started to motor; 19 points from the last 24 available has seen the Seals leap up to 3rd in the table, just two points off top spot. Propelled by the goals of dangerman Akwasi Asante (eight goals), Chester have lost just once so far this season and rank among both the league’s best defences and best attacks.
If Chester have shown any weaknesses so far this season, it’s been on the road. The Blues have picked up eight points on the road from 15 available. And it was a similar story last season too, when Chester picked up 38 points at home, compared to just 24 away.
Gavin Cowan’s men won 3-1 against Chester at the New Bucks Head last season, but the Blues won the reverse fixture 2-1.
Both sides go into Saturday’s game in good form – the Bucks having picked up ten points from 15; Chester grabbing 12 points in the same time. Cowan’s men are three unbeaten though and will be looking to keep that run going this weekend.
