We reflect on season 2023/24 as a season of strong progress on and off the field.
On the field we finished second in the league, just three points off the top and won a play off semi-final. We lost just 6 games out of 40 league games and over the season averaged over 2 points per game.
Thank you to Kevin Wilkin, his management team and the players for what was a very strong season, after a number of poor seasons on the field.
Our fantastic supporters were amazing in the season just ended and gave the team magnificent support home and away. As the season progressed, a very strong connection developed between the first team and our supporters, hugely better than in recent seasons.
Building and strengthening that relationship with our supporters will again be integral to achieving our aims in the 2024/25
season. Also we hope that by giving you more regular updates we have helped you to appreciate more of the things we have to balance and this much improved level of communication will continue, so that we can all have a successful football club.
It was a season where we prioritised improving on the field and we were successful in that, but ultimately we fell at the last hurdle, the play off final. This was a very disappointing outcome for all of us and we will learn from it. On the positive side over 7,000 spectators attended the two home play off games; this was magnificent support, a vote of confidence in what we had achieved in the season and shows huge potential for the future.
We are still processing events, but football will move on quickly and so must we, the club is in a strong place and we are already planning for next season and we will go again with renewed confidence.
We acknowledge and will learn from a slow start to the league season, losing 4 of our first 8 league games and also contributing to a disappointing start we went out of the FA Cup and FA Trophy at the first hurdle. We recovered in a very strong way, losing just 2 of our last 32 league games and this gives us a fantastic platform going into next season.
Thank you again to our magnificent supporters, Kevin and his management team, the players, our staff, sponsors, partners, shareholders and volunteers for their fantastic support in the season just ended.
This statement reflects on the men’s first team. We will reflect on an excellent season for the women’s team once their season finishes and also report separately on a very successful season of activities for our Foundation and Youth teams.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back for season 2024/25 and for sure we are already targeting another strong successful season and to go one better next time. This won’t be easy; we would never allow ourselves to think it will be anything less than hard work. That work is more enjoyable and rewarding when everyone is pulling in the same direction and becomes something that hopefully more people want to be a part of.
We have always been Telford, but in the season just ended, we truly were united again.
#RiseAgain? In many ways, we already have.
