The August Bank Holiday weekend brings two games in four days, and the Bucks start on the road, travelling to Lancashire to visit the Halo Aeroscape Stadium, home of Morecambe FC.
It’s two of the six winless sides in the league who will play at the Halo Aeroscape Stadium on August 28th. Both sides currently sit on a point each after disappointing starts to their 2026/27 season.
The Shrimps suffered back-to-back relegations from EFL League Two and the National League, finishing 22nd last season, eight points from safety. Despite scoring 66 goals across their 46 league games, which is more than teams such as Hartlepool United, who scored 54 and finished 9th, it was their defence which ultimately cost them, with 103 goals conceded.
Morecambe have slightly improved the defensive aspect of their game compared to last season; however, their goal power appears to have suffered since their top goal-scorer last season, Jack Nolan, left for Hartlepool United in the National League. The Shrimps have only found the target twice in four games to date, with Matty Daly netting on the season’s opening day against Spennymoor Town and Joe Garner scoring what proved to be a consolation goal only in last weekend’s loss at Radcliffe.
The Shrimps appointed Adam Lakeland in early May 2026 after opting to trigger his release clause at Halifax Town. The 41-year-old has also had managerial spells at Curzon Ashton and King’s Lynn Town before his Halifax move in July 2025. Lakeland’s Halifax narrowly missed out on play-off football last season in the National League, finishing just one place off the top 7. There will be no doubt he will look to clinch the play-offs, or maybe even automatic promotion, this season with Morecambe if they can turn around their early form.
Kevin Wilkin reported his squad as being close to full participation in training on Tuesday, although Jamie Meddows is still likely to be absent as he recovers from his badly sprained ankle.
The Bucks’ boss expects a tough challenge and isn’t placing too much significance on the league table, with the Shrimps in 24th and the Bucks in 22nd heading into the fixture.
“On the evidence of the results so far, it'll be two closely matched sides, albeit they're going to have the home advantage, which will be an advantage, no doubt about that. We draw confidence from knowing that in most games, we've performed fairly well. We're not panicking about the situation, albeit I want to get the first one on the board as much as everybody else does.
Wilkin pointed to the need to improve in both penalty areas, with the Bucks still looking for a first clean sheet of the season.
With strong travelling support at both away games over the past week, even more Bucks fans are expected to make the trip at the start of the Bank Holiday weekend. Could this finally be the game that ends Telford’s wait for a first win?
