AFC Telford United Women have announced the appointment of Jemma Smith as their new manager, marking an exciting new chapter for the club ahead of the upcoming season.

Smith’s journey with the Bucks began in 2017, and since then she has become a central figure both on and off the pitch. Amassing over 100 appearances for the club, she has demonstrated consistent commitment, professionalism, and leadership throughout her time in Telford colours. Her influence extended beyond her performances, as she also took on the role of vice-captain, earning respect from teammates and staff alike for her leadership qualities.

Her deep understanding of the club, combined with her playing experience, positions her strongly to guide the team forward. Smith is expected to play a pivotal role in driving AFC Telford United Women’s ambitions to become more competitive in the coming season, as the club looks to build on its foundations and push to new heights.

Alongside this appointment, there are further developments within the club’s structure. Alex Owens will transition into the role of Head of Women’s and Girls’ Football, working closely with Hannah Clarke to continue developing the women’s pathway. Owens will also remain involved in the coaching setup, alongside Mick Hill and Tom Lauder, ensuring continuity and support for Smith in her new position.

The changes reflect a clear commitment from AFC Telford United to strengthen its women’s programme, with a focus on progression, competitiveness, and long-term development.

Reflecting on her new role, Jemma said:

"I am extremely proud to step into the role of Player-Manager at a club that has been such an important part of my life. Over the past nine years, I have developed both as a player and as a person, and it is a great honour to now take on this responsibility.

I am fully committed to giving everything to this role and to the players. My focus is on creating an environment where we can continue to develop, improve, and achieve success together.

I am also looking forward to working closely alongside Alex and the rest of the team as we move into this next chapter at AFC Telford Women"

We send many congratulations to Jemma on her appointment, and look forward to AFC Telford United Women reaching new heights under her leadership.
