Royston Town
3 v 3
AFC Telford
Match Review
The Bucks salvaged a point at Royston thanks to two late goals at Garden Walk on Tuesday night.
Wilkin’s men started the game well, and Jimmy Armson put the Bucks ahead in the 24th minute, firing home from close range after Jordan Cranston’s corner unsettled the Crows’ defence.
The Bucks were in the ascendancy at that stage, but the Crows began clawing their way back into the game shortly before half time, and they levelled in the 44th minute when flick on found Luke Johnson who slotted home from ten yards. And a resurgent Royston then made it 2-1 with virtually the last kick of the half, when Ben Weyman found the net after the Bucks failed to clear a corner.
The second half continued where the first had left off, with Town extending their lead to 3-1 thanks to Jesse Akubuine. Weyman found Akubuine on the edge of the Bucks’ box, and the Royston midfielder leathered his shot past Brandon Hall and into the top left corner.
But the second half was the reverse of the first half, and while the Crows started it the better of the two sides, the Bucks certainly ended it the better with a two-minute double salvo to rescue a point. First, Matty Stenson found the net in the 86th minute with a neat lobbed finish, before Reece Styche fired home from close range just mere moments later to make it 3-3.
The draw means the Bucks miss out on the chance to take top spot. But given the circumstances in which it was earned, the point could prove crucial at the end of the season.
