Match Review

The Bucks are through to the FA Trophy Second Round thanks to two goals from Ricardo Dinanga at the Don Amott Arena.

After the disappointment of Monday night’s defeat to Redditch, Kevin Wilkin and the Telford faithful were looking for a reaction from their side. And a reaction they duly got, as the Bucks turned in an excellent first half performance.

Ricardo Dinanga put the Bucks ahead with a cool finish in the 18th minute. Byron Moore pinched the ball off Mickleover’s Curtis Weston, and Dinanga evaded a despairing challenge to expertly fire home an angled drive from 15 yards. A goal up, the Bucks looked comfortable, with the hosts creating very little in the first 45. The Bucks headed in 1-0 up at the break.

The second half seemed to be heading in much the same way as the first, as the Bucks twice went very close to adding a second within the opening five minutes; Dinanga’s placed shot got a deflection that send it narrowly wide before Alex Gudger’s looping header nearly dropped in.

The Bucks looked well in control, but it was the hosts who scored next. A rare mistake from Jordan Piggott was pounced on by Sports, and Charlie Hickingbottom fired home to level the scores at 1-1. That goal, which was a carbon copy of Dinanga’s first half strike, woke the home side up, and the second half was thereafter a much more even affair.

But it was the Bucks who retook the lead thanks to Dinanga’s second strike of the game. The goal owed much to Ellis Brown’s sublime cross, though; Brown swung a delicious ball in from the wing that cut out all four Mickleover defenders, leaving Dinanga with the comparatively straightforward task of tucking home from six yards.

The Bucks needed Orrin Pendley’s headed goalline clearance to kept the score at 2-1, before Dinanga and Armson combined to go close to a third for the Bucks. Sports keeper Yusuf Mersin did well to paw the ball away, though, and moments later his team nearly equalised. Brandon Ferron sent a dangerous ball in from the left, but Ryan Wilson’s header slipped wide of the post.

Wilkin’s men saw the game out and were good value for their 2-1 win. Victory sees the Bucks collect £3,000 and a place in the Second Round, which will take place on Saturday 16 November.
