AFC Telford
2 v 1
Stratford Town
Match Review
The Bucks needed Byron Moore’s late wonder strike to seal a 2-1 win over Stratford, with Wilkin’s men having earlier missed a hatful of golden opportunities.
It’s fair to say that the Bucks dominated the first half, creating several good openings while restricting the Bards to very few chances at the other end. The Bucks headed into half time 1-0 up thanks to Dior Angus’ assured penalty (which he had won himself), but it could have easily been 2 or 3, with Byron Moore and Angus among those who missed some very presentable looking chances.
The Bucks were made to pay for that profligacy shortly after half time, when Stratford forward Dan Lafferty squeezed the ball home for 1-1. And that set the tone for a much more even second half, which the Bards may have even shaved.
However, after a great stop from Brandon Hall to deny Owen James what looked to be a certain goal, up popped Moore in the 84th minute to win the game with a magnificent strike from all of 40 yards. Stratford keeper Callum Smith’s clearance went straight to Moore on the right-hand edge of the centre circle, and the experienced midfield man took a touch before sending the ball back over Smith’s head and into the top left corner.
The Bucks could have made it 3-1 when Moore then missed a much easier opportunity than the one he had just taken, but it was all’s well that ends well for the Bucks as Wilkin’s men beat the Bards 2-1 to claim a third win in a row.
