Match Review

The Bucks put in a marvellous performance to beat the division’s form side, Leiston, 3-1 at the SEAH Stadium.

Kevin Wilkin’s men made the perfect start to the game, with Matty Stenson giving the Bucks the lead in the 6th minute. Luke Rowe hit a fine diagonal ball to Jimmy Armson, and his ball into the middle found Stenson unmarked to head home from six yards out.

Rowe, who captained the side following his re-signing from Bromsgrove this week, was making a big impact in the middle of the park, and the Bucks were playing well on the front foot. That said, Leiston were causing a few headaches down the Bucks’ right. But Wilkin’s men gave themselves some breathing room thanks to a lovely strike from Max Brogan. With the ball dropping ball perfectly for him, Brogan leathered a shot into the bottom corner from 12 yards to give the Bucks a 2-0 lead in the 38th minute.

But with half time looming, the Blues grabbed a goal back. A ball into the box found Adam Mills a little too easily, and Mills tucked the ball inside Brandon Hall’s right post. 2-1 to the Bucks at the break.

The Bucks had shaded matters in the first half, but with the game still finely poised, the next goal would be crucial, and Wilkin’s men came out after the break determined to get it. Armson and Lewis Trickett both went close for the Bucks, before Stenson grabbed the decisive goal for the Bucks in the 56th minute. Ellis Myles played Stenson in on the right, and the Bucks’ top scorer lifted the ball over Billy Johnson and into the net. The goal gave the Bucks a 3-1 lead, and it also saw Stenson match Kyle Perry’s single-season goal record for AFC Telford of 23 (set in 2004/05).

With a two-goal cushion, the Bucks managed the rest of the game well and held out to pick up three massive points against a Leiston side that hadn’t previously lost in 2025.
