Match Review
A goal at the end of each half saw the Bucks edge past a resolute Sudbury side.
This was a scrappy affair with few chances, with the visitors frustrating Kevin Wilkin’s men for long periods of the game. Sudbury didn’t offer much by way of threat in the first half, but they defended stoutly and restricted the Bucks relatively effectively.
That was until the fourth minute of added time at the end of the first half, when Jordan Cranston’s corner was nodded in by Harry Hawkins at the near post. A first goal for the Bucks for Hawkins, and a 1-0 half time lead for Wilkin’s men.
The Suds made a more positive start to the second period. But while the Suffolk club were full of effort, they couldn’t create any clear opportunities, with the Bucks heading away a string of threatening balls into the box.
Wilkin’s men needed a second goal to calm the nerves. Matty Stenson came close to finding that settler in the 74th minute, but his delicate chip was turned over the bar by James Bradbrook in the Sudbury goal. But, after the Bucks had managed the closing stages of the game well, the Bucks’ top scorer did manage to finally put the game to bed in the 90th minute. Another Cranston corner was met by Stenson, who powerfully headed home his 24th goal of the campaign to give the Bucks a 2-0 win.
The Bucks had to really battle for the three points today, but battle they did, and they found the answers when needed. A rare clean sheet was particularly positive. The win moves the Bucks level on points with Halesowen and Bedford at the top of the table.
