The Bucks will make the short trip to Stourbridge this Saturday for a pre-Christmas cracker against the Glassboys.
Liam McDonald’s side began the season with a bang, winning four out of their first five league games, including a 5-1 win at the SEAH Stadium. But Stourbridge’s form has been a little more patchy since then, winning five, drawing four and losing four of their 13 league games since then. That still leaves the Glassboys in a strong position though, and they currently sit in 5th on 31 points.
McDonald, who guided Rushall Olympic the National League North two seasons ago, took the reins at the War Memorial Athletic Ground in the summer after Glassboys’ up and down 2023-24 campaign that saw them finish in an ultimately underwhelming 12th place. And McDonald has brought many of his former charges with him. Defender Jordaan Brown and midfielders Callum Coyle, Jourdain Masidi and Alex Moore all also made the switch from Rushall to Stourbridge in the summer. Other new arrivals include forward Ethan Freemantle (Kidderminster) and former Buck Elliott Durrell, while another former Pic attacker, Ethan McLeod, joined in November.
Kevin Wilkin’s men kickstarted their campaign last season after coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Stourbridge last September. That comeback was the trigger for a 17-game unbeaten run that brought the Bucks back into the promotion picture. And the Glassboys’ visit to the New Bucks Head in January also brought about another uptick in the Bucks’ form; the 2-1 over Stourbridge marking the start of an eight-game winning run on home soil.
Of course, a late collapse from the Bucks saw Stourbridge run out 5-1 winners earlier this season. The Glassboys were the better side in the first half, but the Bucks were well in the game at 2-1 in the 85th minute before that uncharacteristic implosion. Wilkin’s men will no doubt be hoping to make amends for that disappointing result next weekend, and three points would go a long way to strengthening the Bucks’ position in the promotion picture.
