Kick Off : 19:45
The Bucks will make the short trip to Lye Meadow this Tuesday to take on Alvechurch.
The Church have had a very up and down season. Having finished last season in 11th, the Church alternated between victory to defeat before a heavy FA Cup loss at the hands of Halesowen in mid-September saw then-manager Ian Long given the boot. In came current boss James Fry and things immediately improved, with his side picking up three wins from his first three games in charge.
However, after losing 1-0 to the Bucks at the end of October, Alvechurch proceeded to go a further nine league games without a win – losing six of those fixtures – as they slumped down the table. Although they are currently comfortable in 13th, the Worcestershire club were deep in relegation trouble only a few weeks ago.
Fry’s side have been much improved since the turn of the year though, picking 22 points from their 13 games so far in 2024. Church’s six-game unbeaten run recently came to a halt with back-to-back defeats, but victory over Stourbridge at the weekend saw them get back to winning ways.
That win came courtesy of a goal from top scorer Jaanai Gordon. The big centre forward, who Kevin Wilkin signed for Brackley in 2022, has hit 12 goals this season and has four in his last eight games.
Alvechurch’s last three games have all been on home soil, meaning that Tuesday will be a fourth home game in a row for the Worcestershire side. And despite the two recent defeats, James Fry’s side have picked up double the amount of points at Lye Meadow as they have done on the road.
The Bucks dominated the first half of the reverse fixture, with Jordan Piggott giving Wilkin’s men the lead. Alvechurch grew into the game in the second half though, and they were slightly unfortunate not to come away with a point.
Wilkin’s men jumped up to 3rd with victory over Stamford on Saturday and will look to cement their place in the playoffs with a sixth win in seven on Tuesday.
