The Bucks will make the short trip to Worcestershire on Easter Monday to face Bromsgrove.
It’s safe to say that Sporting have had something of an inconsistent season. The Worcestershire club have been struggling at the wrong end of the table for much of the campaign, but their winless streaks have been punctuated with some impressive results. Back in October, the Rouslers were the first team to take a point off then-runaway leaders Mickleover, while Sporting put in a resolute performance to earn themselves a point in a goalless stalemate with the Bucks on New Year’s Day.
That draw at the New Bucks Head was part of a five-match unbeaten run, in fact, which saw the Rouslers start pulling themselves clear of danger. However, a subsequent winless stretch with four defeats from five saw player manager Mike McGrath lose his job, with former England international Tim Flowers taking the reins.
And the Rouslers’ form has noticeably improved since Flowers took charge. Sporting picked up 10 points from a possible 15 before Easter Saturday’s defeat at Coalville. Still, during Flowers’ reign, the Rouslers comprehensively beat league leaders Needham Market 3-0. Bromsgrove now sit in 16th, 10 points clear of the drop.
Flowers was quick to bring former Bucks striker Nathan Blissett to the Victoria Ground, with further reinforcements coming in as well. Other recent arrivals include defenders Mark Derricott, Ben Richards-Everton and Finn Howell, while youngster Peter Abimbola joins on loan from Northampton. The Rouslers’ squad also includes two other former Bucks in the shape of Luke Rowe and Ben O’Hanlon.
Dangerman Conor Tee, who turned down the Bucks in January to commit himself to Sporting for the rest of the season, left Bromsgrove for Rushall Olympic in February.
The Bucks are looking to confirm a playoff place as soon as possible, and back-to-back bank holiday wins would go a long way to achieving that aim.
