Match Preview
"Bucks looking to get back to winning ways at home"
Match Date : January 27th, 2024 3:00 pm
Competition : Southern League Premier Central
Ground : New Bucks Head
Kick Off : 15:00
The Bucks will be back in action at the New Bucks Head again this Saturday, when Stourbridge will be the visitors.
The Glassboys started the season in fine form and were in and around the playoff places for much of the early part of the campaign. However, a noticeable dip in form since the end of November, which has seen the Worcestershire club lose seven out of ten games in all competitions, means Stourbridge have tumbled down the table. However, the Glassboys have since won back-to-back games to climb back up to 15th, six points clear of the drop zone.
Stourbridge’s situation hasn’t been helped by the loss of their top scorer, Luke Benbow, who has been ruled out for the season. In Benbow’s absence, the Glassboys have brought in Ethan Freemantle, Kian Riley and Alex Jones on loan (from Kidderminster, Solihull and Tamworth respectively), with the latter bagging a 94th minute winner on his debut against Alvechurch on Tuesday night.
The Glassboys are led by management duo Leon Broadhurst and Stuart Pierpoint. While the pair took the reins at the War Memorial Athletic Ground in 2021, both have a long history with the Worcestershire club. Pierpoint was previously captain of the club during a four-year spell, while Broadhurst is the Glassboy’s record appearance maker, having turned out 780 appearances for Stourbridge between 2003 and 2019.
The sides drew 2-2 at the War Memorial Athletic Ground earlier in the season in a game that marks the start of the Bucks current unbeaten run in the league. Having been 2-0 down at half time, Kevin Wilkin’s men staged a stirring comeback in the second half and may well have ended up victorious on another day.
The Bucks will be aiming for all three points this time against a Stourbridge side who tend to perform better at home than on the road. The Glassboys have the fourth-worst away record in the league having picked up ten points from 12 games. The Bucks, meanwhile, are unbeaten in nine at home but have drawn the last three at the New Bucks Head, so Wilkin’s men will be looking for a win to help move back up into the playoff places.
