"Bucks looking for a performance to remember against the Comrades"

The Bucks travel to Hertfordshire this weekend to take on Berkhamsted.

The Comrades cruised to the Southern League Division One Central title, finishing 19 points ahead of second-placed Biggleswade. What’s more, Berkhamsted also had the league’s best defence and best attack, racking up 91 goals while conceding just 32.

Chris Devane was the man who led Berkhamsted to the league crown and also guided them to last season’s Hertfordshire Senior Cup title. However, much like fellow new boys AFC Sudbury, budgetary constraints led to the club parting ways with their title-winning manager in the summer, with many of the championship-winning squad also departing.

The man tasked with leading Berkhamsted during their inaugural Step 3 campaign is former AFC Dunstable manager Steve Heath. And Heath has brought many of his Dunstable side with him.  including many of the Dunstable squad’s players. Top scorer, 18-goal Louie Collier, Manager’s and Supporter’s Player of the season, keeper Jamie Head, and goalscoring defender Sam McClelland, who bagged 14 goals from centre back last year, all followed Heath to Broadwater, although Collier has since moved on.

But after a summer of change, Berkhamsted have struggled to adjust to life at the higher level. The Comrades have the league’s worst defence and joint-second-worst attack, while they’ve failed to score in half of their 16 league games so far – the worst record of any side in the division. Currently 21st, the Hertfordshire club have won just once in the, and that came on the opening day of the season.

The Bucks, meanwhile, have seen an uptick in form over the last month, with Kevin Wilkin’s men going unbeaten in the league since the back end of September. The Bucks have picked up 14 points from the last 18 on offer and haven’t lost away from home in the league since the end of August. That’s seen the Bucks climb up to 5th, and Wilkin and his men will want to see that good form continue next weekend, as the Bucks look to cement a place in the playoffs spots.
