Matt Yates believes that there is still plenty to be proud of despite last week’s defeat against Brackley, and has settled into life at the Bucks well following his loan move from Derby County which has seen him cement his place as the Bucks number one.
Yates, 20, is currently in good form and has expressed a steady composure which has meant he has held onto the number one jersey. He says that they were unlucky in their last outing however it just turned out to be one of those games where the Brackley defence was simply too stern.
“We were against a good side, but I thought we deserved a point throughout the game, especially second half we couldn’t just get that goal. (On the penalty save against Brackley) anyway I can help the team by keeping the ball out of the team is a positive for me.
“We can be proud of it (on festive fixtures), we have had some tough games and some positive results and hopefully we can look forward to end of the season by making a push for the playoffs. We have got to take the positives from this game and look at where we can improve and take that into York next week, that will be another tough game.”
He has settled into life at the club well and reveals that he was greeted to a warm welcome from the staff and players within the club, also that he needs to keep his performance levels high in order to keep within his own boundaries while doing what it takes as a team to get the best results.
“It’s a fantastic club, with some great people, the gaffer and players have made me feel welcome. The lads are fantastic , they made me feel like part of the team straight away which is what you want as a lad coming into a men’s environment and they made me feel at home right from the off.
“There is always that pressure to keep your place so you have to keep on performing so obviously the lads have helped with three clean sheets and that’s all of us as a collective who have helped to achieve that.”
Telford face a trip to York City this afternoon at Bootham Crescent and will be hoping that their recent defensive displays will allow them to go there and come back with something. The Minstermen currently lie in second place and are attempting to secure promotion up to the National League after suffering relegation from that division a few seasons ago.
