In the lead up to the festive season, staff at AFC Telford United are calling on their supporters to help support the Samaritan’s with their Operation Christmas Child appeal.
Sometimes known as The Shoebox Appeal, Operation Christmas Child is aimed at helping disadvantaged and poor children in several underdeveloped regions around the world.
The idea is that a shoebox is filled with a well-balanced variety of items, which are then sent to either a boy or a girl covering four different age categories, 2-4 years, 5-9 years, and 10-14 years.
We recommend several items to include in each shoebox.
The contents should ideally consist of school supplies such as pens, pencils, crayons, notepads and picture books, hygiene items like a facecloth, toothbrush, comb and soap, and toys such as stuffed animals, small musical instruments, as well as hair clips, toy jewellery, t-shirts, and socks.
Any items that can be linked to AFC Telford United would also be welcome.
Those donating are also encouraged to include a personal note and/or a photograph so the recipient child can see who pack their box.
Please remember to include a £3 donation to Help cover shipping and other costs related to delivering your shoebox to a child overseas by donating £3 for each one you prepare.
Place the cheque/cash on top of the items inside your shoebox. If you are preparing multiple shoeboxes, please make one combined donation.
Luke Shelley, Football Operations Manager added: “We are delighted to be part of this really important appeal and to offer our support to the valuable work undertaken by the volunteers at Samaritan’s
The Operation Christmas Child Appeal brings happiness to families less fortunate than ours all over the world.”
“The appeal reaches out to communities from all over the world and brings happiness at this important time of the year, if the community of Telford can support this amazing appeal there will be plenty more children that will enjoy a small gift this Christmas”
