Stourbridge
1 v 1
AFC Telford
Match Review
The Bucks’ 1000th game since reforming in 2004 ended in a 1-1 draw, as Stourbridge snatched a late leveller to deny Wilkin’s men all three points.
The trip to Stourbridge is the Bucks’ shortest away day of the season, and with the Bucks short on numbers, Kevin Wilkin handed starts to loanee Harry Hawkins and Joe Morris, who joins on a work experience deal from Shrewsbury Town.
Both youngsters looked good in a first half that was somewhat short on goalmouth action. Alex Bradley went closest for the hosts; his low shot in the opening exchanges went just wide. Meanwhile, Remi Walker’s dipping drive whizzed over the bar before Matty Stenson’s effort right on half time was well saved at his near post by Callum Smith. The sides went in level at the break at 0-0.
The Glassboys started the second half well and were keeping the Bucks penned back in the opening exchanges. But it was the Bucks who took the lead in the 59th minute. With Stourbridge overcommitting in the midfield, the Bucks found themselves with a two on one, as Jimmy Armson fed Ricardo Dinanga who advanced forward. Dinanga’s venomous shot was well saved by Callum Smith, but the ball looped up and Armson was on hand to squeeze his header past the Glassboys stopper.
In a game where presentable opportunities were few and far between, the Bucks had the lead and, on the whole, were dealing well with the Stourbridge threat. That was until the 95th minutes, when the Glassboys managed to find an equaliser. Stourbridge swung a corner into the box, and in the following scramble the ball ended up in net; Jordaan Brown was initially created with the goal, but Stourbridge have since awarded it to Alex Jones.
A draw was probably about the right result overall, although the Bucks may feel that this was two points dropped having been so close to securing the win.
