AFC Telford
Match Review
The Bucks kept only their second clean sheet of the season as they picked up an impressive 2-0 win at Leiston, who were previously unbeaten at home in the league this season.
Matty Stenson nearly found the net in the opening moments, but his header went just over the bar. But the Bucks’ positive start was rewarded in the 6th minute when Jakub Kruszynski and Remi Walker combined down the right, and Stenson was on hand to turn the ball home from close range. Wilkin’s men continued to dominate the opening exchanges, and the Bucks made it two in the 23rd minute. A long ball forward found an unmarked Ricardo Dinanga, who controlled well before poking the ball past the on rushing Leiston keeper, Billy Johnson, to make it 2-0.
That goal seemed to wake the Blues up, and they started to cause the Bucks a few problems. The Suffolk club forced a series of corners and the Bucks did well to block some dangerous goalbound efforts, before Jamar Loza went was denied by a good save from Brandon Hall. The Bucks stood firm though, and were the side to come closest to finding the net. Right on half time, Kruszynski found Dinanga in the left channel with an excellent crossfield ball, but the in form forward blasted his shot over the bar. The Bucks headed into the break 2-0 up.
The second period was one of few clear cut chances for either side, as the Bucks turned in a professional performance to keep a dangerous Leiston side at arm’s length. The hosts dominated possession after the break, but they didn’t trouble Hall in the Telford goal. In fact, it was the Bucks who nearly nicked another late on when Hall’s quick thinking released Reece Styche but, after beating the covering defender, Styche couldn’t find a way past Johnson, who did well to turn the ball behind for a corner.
A 2-0 win for the Bucks, then, and our first ever win at Victory Road and, indeed, over Leiston full stop. A strong showing from the Bucks and three points that sees Wilkin’s men move alongside 2nd-place Halesowen on 33 points.
