AFC Telford Ladies
3 v 2
Ilkeston Town Ladies
Match Review
The scene was set at the SEAH Stadium as AFC Telford Women were looking to beat higher level opponents Ilkeston Town to make the main draw of the FA Cup.
The Bucks started brightly and were a handful down both wings looking for that early goal. That early goal came in the 8th minute as the lively Abbie Baldwin broke free down the right wing. Was it a cross, was it a shot, only Abbie can tell us as the ball nestled in at the back post.
The lead was doubled a matter of minutes later as striker Charlotte Budd wriggled free to set up a 1v1 opportunity. Her shot was well saved by the Ilkeston keeper but on hand was Abi Beady to turn home from a couple of yards.
2 nearly became 3 just 3 minutes later as a Jem Smith effort from distance was turned around the post by the Ilkeston keeper. At the other end shortly after Mia Bansal was forced into action to turn a similar chance around the post.
Abi Beady nearly had her second of the game half way through the first half but her effort flashed wide of the far post.
On 33 minutes the Bucks were forced into a change as Libby White was replaced by Liv Bellamy and shortly after the Bucks switched off allowing the Ilkeston striker to keep the ball in on the by line before beating Bansal at the near post.
As we edged towards the half time break the Bucks restored the two goal advantage. Great work from Sasha Woodhouse down the left set free Charlotte Budd who finished confidently for her 6th goal in the competition.
HALF TIME: AFC Telford 3 Ilkeston Town 1
It was almost the dream start to the second half for the Bucks. A superb strike from distance from Abby White struck the crossbar before bouncing back to Abi Beady. With the goal at the her mercy the visiting keeper pulled off a superb point blank save to keep her side in the tie.
Much of the second half was a cagey affair with neither side having any significant chances of note, the Bucks potentially edging it for possession and half chances.
On 78 minutes Mia Bansal clawed away a dangerous free kick from 20 yards to keep the Bucks two goal advantage. 10 minutes later and the visitors halved the deficit after a long ball was misjudged in the air by Rom Evans leaving the Town striker in 1v1 to calmly finish past Bansal.
Despite the goal the Bucks closed out the remainder of the game and 6 minutes added time with relative ease to book their place in the first round proper of the game cup.
