Match Review

Those that braved the wet weather were treated to an entertaining encounter with 8 goals as the Bucks women opened up their league campaign with a 4-4 draw against newly promoted Hednesford Town.

It was the visitors that started the quickest opening the scoring in the 4th minute. A free kick out wide bounced in the box before being hooked in off the post. On 13 minutes the scores were level as a cross field ball from Rom Evans was missed by the Hednesford right back allowing Sasha Woodhouse to get her cross in. The cross was deep just outside the reach of the keeper and was buried on the half volley by Skye Hipkiss; her first goal for the club.

The Bucks turned it around on 18 minutes after great work from Charlotte Budd on the right hand side. Her cross caused confusion between the keeper and defender allowing Jodie Pitt to pounce on the loose ball to open her Telford account. On 42 minutes the lead was stretched, again a cross the source and again confusion in the Hednesford box before a defender diverted into her own net.

There was still time for the visitors to get one back courtesy of a great finish from 25 yards high into the net.

HALF TIME: AFC Telford 3 Hednesford Town 2

2 minutes into the second half and the Bucks regained their two goal advantage, this time from a corner. After the ball bounced around in the box, the players stopped with shouts of a penalty for handball. As the ref was unmoved, Evans was alert to prod home.

Just past the hour mark the visitors pulled one back with another great finish from 25 yards, leaving Bansal with no chance. Five minutes later the scores were level as the Hednesford striker found a space between Bansal and her near post to fire home.

The final 20 minutes offered little in the way of goalmouth action and the points were shared. Attention now turns for both sides to the FA Cup where the Bucks make the trip to Derbyshire to face Belper United.
