It was the opening weekend of the 2018/2019 season for our Youth sides with 12 representing the club in their respective leagues.
We start our round up with the Under 13 Boys who faced a tricky opening day fixture against last seasons winners Lichfield Round Table Galaxy. It was a superb first half for the Bucks as goals from Preston Whinnerah, Jack Tranter and Dylan Millington raced them into a 3 goal lead. However, the visitors were much improved second half and managed the level things up with less than five minutes to go. However, the Bucks grabbed a break and Josh McDonald netted from the spot to secure an opening day victory. Meanwhile the Under 12 Boys picked up an impressive 5-0 victory away at Lane Head Royals. Leyland Hicks led the way with a brace assisted by Oliver Lloyd, Macara McNulty-Hartnett and Kai Cook.
It was an opening day victory too for the Under 12 Girls as they beat Lawley Lightmoor Comets 3-0. Goals came from Mya Yee, Darcy Miller and Frances Creen. A Joe Byrne goal wasn’t enough to prevent the Under 17s Boys from going down 3-1 away at Banbury United. An Anna Lister hat trick gave the Under 18 Girls a great opening day victory away at Wyre Forest Phoenix. Macey Turvey was on hand with the other goal, a great 25 yard free kick.
In their opening game of their debut season in the MJPL, the Under 10 Boys ran out winners at home to local side NC United. Goals came from Kian Nolan, Issac Bateson, Tyler Roe and Ethan Rowland. It was equally convincing for the Under 11 Boys as 7 different goal scorers contributed to victory against Beacon Lions. George Cruise, Elliot Elcocks, Will Hardeman, Bayley Bateman, Murat Sulley, Logan Whittaker and Jack Deeley all found the net in the opening fixture. The Under 16 Boys went down by a single goal away at MYD GNG whilst an Abbie Norry strike wasn’t enough for the Under 16 Girls who suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Derby County.
After the drama of a penalty shoot out on Thursday in the FA Youth Cup, the defending league champions our Under 18s Side faced Hednesford Town Newlands looking to start the season with a win. Despite goals from Marcus Tye, Josef Pratt and David Jones, the Bucks went down 5-3. An own goal and a goal from the ever prolific Reece Clayton wasn’t enough for the Under 15 Boys as they fell to a disappointing defeat at home to Basford United.
We end our round up with the Under 14 Boys who travelled to face Bilbrook Juniors,
looking for an opening day victory. In a game in which the Bucks dominated they were unlucky not to take 3 points and were forced to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw, Matthew Cutler with the Telford goal.
