Bucks hope to bounce back against Salford

AFC Telford United vs Salford City

Vanarama National League North

Saturday 12th August 2017, 3pm kick off

The Bucks are back in action at the New Bucks Head this coming Saturday, when Salford City will be the visitors.

Telford went down 3-1 to Brackley Town on Tuesday night, and Salford are sure provide another stern test for Rob Edwards’ men.

After finishing fourth in the league last year, the Ammies lost out on penalties to FC Halifax Town in the playoff semi-final. This season Salford are once more among the favourites for promotion, with co-owner Paul Scholes even going so far as to state that the club expects to go up.

In their pursuit of promotion, the Ammies have switched to full-time football, a move which led to a summer of change at Moor Lane. Among the departures were skipper Simon Grand and keeper Jay Lynch, who both joined AFC Fylde, while midfielder Sam Walker left for Stockport County and forward James Poole joined Altrincham.

But the Ammies have recruited a raft of experienced players in their place, as management duo Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley revamped their squad. In come centre halves Danny Livesey, Liam Hogan and Carl Piergianni, while midfielder Lois Maynard has arrived from Tranmere. Up front, meanwhile, local lad Jack Redshaw returns to the club having spent the last five years playing league football.

Redshaw will link up in attack with former Telford forward Mike Phenix, who bagged 15 league goals for Salford last season. Only defender Michael Nottingham has registered so far for the Ammies this campaign though, his solitary strike was enough to see off Chorley in midweek and give Salford their first points of
 the season.

The Ammies beat the Bucks in both of last season’s fixtures, including an impressive 2-0 win at the New Bucks Head – a game which featured James Hurst’s now infamous red card. But with both sides much changed since then, Telford chief Edwards will no doubt want to improve the Bucks’ record against Salford and, in doing so, see his side score their first home points of the season.
