County come to town for Tuesday night tussle
AFC Telford United vs Stockport County.
Vanarama National League North
Tuesday 12th September 2017, 7.45pm kick off
Rob Edwards’ men will take to the New Bucks Head turf again on Tuesday night, when Stockport County will be the visitors.
Jim Gannon’s side narrowly missed out on the playoffs last season, finishing in 8th – just one point behind eventual playoff finalists Chorley. And Gannon’s men will expect to be gearing for another promotion push come the end of the current campaign.
That said, the Hatters have had a mixed start and have lost four of their first five away games this season, slipping to defeat at Spennymoor, Salford, Tamworth and York. County did, however, claim victory at Leamington, although that only came courtesy of a 94th minute winner from Jason Oswell.
Oswell arrived at Edgeley park in the summer after winning last season’s Golden Boot in the Welsh Premier League. The front man netted 22 times for Newtown and has smashed in nine goals in his ten games for Stockport this term.
And Oswell’s goals are going a long way to fill the void left by Danny Lloyd’s departure to Peterborough United. Lloyd was County’s creator in chief last season and top scored for the club with 21 strikes. Other arrivals at Stockport this summer include playmaker Sam Walker and former Chorley dangerman Darren Stephenson.
The Bucks’ previous encounters with the Hatters couldn’t have been more evenly matched. In the ten games between the two sides, both have each won once at home and once away, with the other six matches ending in draws – including stalemates in both of last season’s fixtures. In addition, both clubs have scored and
conceded 13 goals apiece across those ten previous meetings.
While County have struggled on the road, the Bucks have similarly struggled at home and are yet to pick up a point at home. And with a tight game looking likely this Tuesday, Rob Edwards will want his side to find a way to win and send the Telford faithful home happy.
