Bucks face promotion-chasing Yellows in the cup
Warrington Town vs AFC Telford United
Emirates FA Cup – Third Round Qualifying
Saturday 6th October 2018, 3pm kick off
The Bucks head to Cheshire this weekend to take on Warrington Town in the FA Cup third qualifying round.
Telford will be looking to bounce back from defeat at Blyth, and the cup could provide just the tonic to reinvigorate the Bucks’ promising start to the campaign.
Gavin Cowan’s men currently sit 5th in the National League North but have picked up only one point in the last three league games. In the cup, meanwhile, a hat-trick from Daniel Udoh saw the Bucks run out 3-1 victors over Bedford Town in the last round.
Telford won 5-0 on their only ever visit to Cantilever Park back in April 2005, and the Bucks will have to be at their best again if they are to get passed a resolute Warrington side.
The Yellows finished 3rd in the Northern Premier League last season, level on points with eventual playoff winners, 2nd-placed Ashton United. And Paul Carden’s side look like they’ll challenge at the top of the table again this year. After Tuesday night’s 1-0 win over Mickleover Sports, Warrington currently sit top of the table and already have games in hand over their nearest rivals.
Up front for Town, former Telford goal-getter Tony Gray leads the way with seven strikes to his name. However, Warrington’s success is largely built on defence. Last season the Yellows had the 2nd-best defence in their league, while it looks like they’re gunning to go one better this campaign. Town have conceded just three goals in their ten league games, keeping clean sheets in the last eight of those fixtures.
The Yellows have, in fact, won six in a row in the league and have lost just once all season – and that was their opener against Farsley Celtic back in August. Meanwhile wins over Burscough and Consett, the latter after a replay, have seen Warrington progress in the cup.
Telford overcame Stafford Rangers at this stage of last year’s competition, and Bucks boss Cowan will no doubt want to advance to the next stage once again this season.
