Bucks hope to silence Quakers

Darlington vs AFC Telford United

Vanarama National League North

Saturday 22nd April 2017, k/o 3pm

Next Saturday sees the Bucks head north to face high flying Darlington.

Despite sitting 4th in the table, the Quakers look set to miss out on the playoffs because Blackwell Meadows does not meet the ground grading requirements. Despite Darlo having plans in place to develop the site, a change to the regulations last summer means that a plan to use temporary seating in the interim is no longer permitted.

But that has not stopped the Quakers from continuing their fine form in recent weeks. With the club currently appealing the ground grading decision, Darlington have won five in a row at home and have lost just one of their last ten league fixtures.

Martin Gray’s side continue to impress in front of goal too. The league’s second best attack, Darlo have found the net 80 times thanks to a number of different scorers throughout the team. Mark Beck leads the way with 16 goals, left back Terry Galbraith has 12, while Josh Gillies hit double figures last Saturday. Liam Hardy, Dave Syers and Stephen Thompson have each netted at least eight times, and even centre backs Kevin Burgess and Gary Brown have nine goals between them this season.

The County Durham club won both their games over the Easter weekend but the Bucks will take confidence from the last time the two sides met. Rob Smith’s side beat the Quakers 2-0 in an entertaining encounter earlier this season at the New Bucks Head. The game turned in Telford’s favour after Darlington keeper Peter Jameson received red for raising his hands towards Bradley Reid. Josh Wilson scored from the resultant penalty kick before Reid added a second.

The Bucks picked up a point at Stockport County last time out on the road – a similar scoreline against the Quakers would secure safety once and for all.
